Day 4: Cedars of Lebanon State Park to Memphis, TN

So we head out of the state park into Nashville in the morning, and the cool thing about Nash-vegas is you can go into a bar at noon on a Friday, order a beer, and hear some of the finest live country music in the nation. I didn't actually do this, but it's pretty cool that you can.

We got on the road to Memphis and the hills became smaller and smaller in a general declivity towards the Mississippi. We came upon Memphis through its outer run down sections and then suddenly there were the high rises on the banks of the Mississippi; the river frothing thick and deep, racing beneath bridges, tugboats and barges pushing in both directions along its surface.

We ate dinner at a restaurant downtown called "Westy's" and I ordered Jambalaya, and Marcela BBQ. Delicious. Memphis has a got a hip, deeply cultural vibe going for it, even if parts of the city are dealing with some economic hardships.

We stayed about 15 miles north of the city in Meeman-Shelby State Park: beautiful with a lush, vibrant, old-growth forest. We watched a thunderstorm roll through from inside our truck bunk, the rain sounding like nails driving against the camper shell.
