Day 2: Fairy Stone to Natural Tunnel

We packed up and left and headed west again on Rt. 58. Twisting through mountain after mountain, through empty valleys. A small black bear scampers across the road in front of our truck.

We drove for about five hours and stop at Natural Tunnel State Park. We took a short hike to an overlook, and we discovered the Grand Canyon of Virginia! A 400 ft. cliff drop straight to a distant forest floor, rotating 270 degrees, and terminating in a tunnel that sucks into the rocks to some unknown destination. While we are standing there, we heard the horn of a train echoing through the tunnel. The engine emerges, and the train looks like a toy from our high vintage...

I cooked the worst pasta I've cooked in my life, but after five hours of driving it felt like heaven! At least that's what Rusty says!
